1. Be at least sixteen (16) years of age with a government issued ID indicating your birthdate. A student under 18 will need a parent or guardian signature.
2. Have a high school diploma or an equivalent. Equivalents include a high school transcript indicating graduation, or GED (general education degree). You may use an associates or bachelor degree diploma or transcripts indicating graduation. In addition, if your education records are unavailable from your school district, we will accept a letter from the school district indicating graduation.
3. Students that completed high school outside the United States must have their records translated into English and evaluated by an evaluation company to insure that the education is academically equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma.
* If a class becomes full we will put you on the start list to begin with the next available opening.
Graduation & Licensing Requirements
In order to graduate from Inner State Beauty School and receive a certificate, the student must:
Complete all hours required for the course enrolled, complete assigned written and practical work necessary to maintain a cumulative grade average of at least 75%, maintain an attendance rate of at least 67% of scheduled hours, and make sure the school is paid in full for your course and costs.
To sit for the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology and Barber and earn your license you must be at least 16 years of age, prove that you have at least completed 10th grade (please note, this is the state rule and may differ from the school policy). You must successfully complete the course that matches your desired license and be eligible to work in the State of Ohio. Please note, no individual shall practice a branch of cosmetology, for pay, free, or otherwise, without a current, valid license. A boutique registration does not allow you to perform services outside the scope of practice of the registration and is not a license.
Ability to Benefit
Ability to benefit is a student who is beyond the state recognized age of compulsory
education, lacks a high school diploma or its equivalent and has the ability to benefit
from the education or training offered at an institution. A test is administered by an
independent approved tester. You cannot use an ATB if you are using Federal Studen aid.
You must bring a copy of the result to Inner State.
Students are required to wear solid black pants with black shoes.
All hours required for the course(s) enrolled must be completed. The student must
maintain a cumulative grade average of at least 75% and complete all tests, projects
and assignments. All amounts owed to the school must be paid in full. Every student
must take the Ohio State Board Examination to become licensed in the state of Ohio.
Students pay their own state board exam and registration fees.
Grading Standards
The grading standards are the same for all courses. Students failing to take or pass
an exam with a score of at least 75% will be allowed to retake the exam. When any
exam is re-taken, for any reason, the higher of the scores will become the student’s
permanent score on that test. Students must make arrangements in advance to make
up tests. Courses are taught with a combination of theory (non-clinic) and practical (clinic).
93% - 100% Excellent (A) 85% - 92.99% Good (B)
75% - 84.99% Average (C) below 75% Failing (F)
State Board of Cosmetology Exam
Our goal in setting the curriculum, organizing classes and offering services is to make sure every student passes the state board of cosmetology exam, and has the skills and information to work in or open a salon. Inner State Beauty School will assist each student as they apply to take the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology and Barber exam for their course. To graduate all accounts must be paid in full, including any hours required to complete their course after their contract graduation date. Inner State Beauty School will help you fill out your application.
All applications are applied for and processed online using the Ohio elicense system. You will need the following to apply for a licensing examination:
A credit card, debit card or check (check will submitted electronically) to pay for the exam and a work permit. A work permit allows you to work in a salon between the time you schedule your test date and sit for your scheduled exam.
